2011 NAFEM: Peace, Love and Innovation

Desiree Logsdon, BUNN VP of Marketing, sums up her visit to NAFEM.

NAFEM 2011 is now behind us and was a successful kick start to this years trade show season for BUNN. The show is held every other year by the North American Association of Food Equipment Manufacturers. This years show featured over 500 exhibiting companies, educational sessions, a new product gallery and great networking opportunities.

If I had to identify one theme, it would be innovation. Without exception, manufacturers are focused on building equipment that is intuitive and high performing. While weve recognized for some time that the key to success is designing food service equipment to assist operators in delivering high quality products on a consistent basis, it seems that mission is a higher priority than ever before.

Congratulations to Executive Chef Stan Frankenthaler of Dunkin Brands for presenting Beverages: High Margins, Lots of Competition, How to Get it Right. (Link here for interesting NBC Philadelphia interview with Chef Stan.) He led the audience through a lively demonstration creating trendy beverages such as fresh fruit- smoothies, unique vegetable juices, cold-infused tea and single-origin coffee brewed by the cup. He discussed current buzz-terms in promoting todays beverages including, productive calories, made freshly for you and bio-available nutrients. He posed for thought the liberal permission consumers are giving to the chewing gum and tea industries to create a wide-reaching range of unique flavors with high acceptability. Chef discussed the cup at a time movement in coffee and expressed his pleasure in the equipment available that allows baristas to coax flavors out of the coffee beans.

In closing, Chef challenged us all to ask ourselves the following question, How do we get customers to fall in love with our brand?
