The 11th Annual Roasters Guild Retreat was held for the first time ever on the eastern seaboard in the beautiful West Virginia mountains at the Stonewall Resort in Roanoke. Roasters from all over the world - even as far as New Zealand - came to take part in this educational weekend. Participants ranged from home roasters, to beginning business owners, to some of the most seasoned roasters in the industry. During the retreat roasters were assigned to teams and presented with coffees that they had to profile and roast in competition with one another. One team chose to use the trifecta to brew and help determine how they would roast and present their coffee to the judges. (See photo below.)
During the course of the weekend many roasters had the chance to bring their coffees to the trifecta area. It was a great opportunity to brew coffees from all major coffee regions prepared by roasters all over the United States. The highlight, though, was the auction to benefit Grounds for Health. BUNN was a proud sponsor of the Retreat, and I want to thank everyone for the great time and conversation. I know I learned a lot and look forward to future events.
