This month we are taking a glance at the coffee producing country of Ecuador.
Ecuador, located in South America, is a small country that is roughly the equivalent size of the state of Nevada. (Ecuador Unplugged) This relatively small country has a very diverse climate which allows coffee to be grown all over the country including the Galapagos Islands. In Ecuador, all coffee varieties are grown including washed Arabica, natural Arabica and Robusta. According to Roast Magazine, the average production for coffee in Ecuador is about 650,000 bags of coffee with Arabica accounting for about 60 percent of coffee production, followed by Robusta beans at 40 percent.
In general, coffees from Ecuador are described as "thin to medium body coffee with sharp acidity." (About.com)
