A recent article in the Wall Street Journal titled "Stress-Busting Smiles" proclaimed "smiling could be good for your health."1
This intrigued me. How?
A recent study suggests that wearing a grin can bring benefits, "like slowing down the heart and reducing stress." 1
Researchers had 170 participants hold a pair of chopsticks three different ways in their mouth. Holding the chopsticks in their mouth made the participants smile even though they were unaware they were smiling. "One way forced people to maintain a neutral expression, another prompted a polite smile, and a third resulted in a full smile that uses the muscles around the mouth and the eyes."1
The participants who smiled had a "steeper decline in heart rate"1 and a faster recovery to stress.
This got me thinking: What brings a smile to my face? Of course my family and friends popped in my head first, but what small things bring a smile to my face?
The smell of fresh laundry and my morning cup of coffee are small everyday items that bring a smile to my face!
The following items bring a smile to my co-workers' faces.
